Frequently Asked Questions:

Does Eco Solar Technics only install for individuals? Or also for companies?

Eco Solar Technics installs for both individuals and companies.

What are TIER1 panels?

TIER1 solar panels are high quality solar panels produced by companies with a strong financial position, an established reputation and a proven track record in the production of solar panels. These panels have a high efficiency and are produced according to strict quality standards. TIER1 solar panels are often chosen by consumers and companies looking for reliable and sustainable energy solutions.

It is important to note that not all solar panel brands that call themselves TIER1 actually meet these quality standards. That is why it is always advisable to research the reputation and quality of the manufacturer and their products when purchasing solar panels.

What is the difference between a string inverter and microinverter?

A string inverter and a microinverter are both types of inverters used in solar energy systems. The main difference between these two types of inverters lies in how they convert the direct current (DC) produced by the solar panels into alternating current (AC) suitable for use in households or on the grid.

A string inverter is typically used in systems with several solar panels connected in series to form one long 'string'. The inverter converts the DC current of the entire string into AC current, making it suitable for use in the household or on the grid. String inverters are generally less expensive than microinverters and are often used on larger solar power systems.

A microinverter is a smaller, individual inverter placed directly below each solar panel that converts each panel's DC power into AC power. This allows each panel to operate independently of the others, maximizing system performance and minimizing the impact of shadowing. Microinverters are generally more expensive than string inverters, but they can be more efficient and result in higher returns from the solar system.

Choosing a string inverter or microinverter depends on the specific needs and characteristics of the solar power system and your personal preferences and budget.

Do you need a license to install solar panels?

Yes, the installation of solar panels at private homes in Spain, generally requires a license. However, exact license requirements may vary depending on the region and municipality where the installation is taking place.

In most cases, solar panel installations have to be approved by municipal authorities and may also require approval from regional or national authorities. Depending on the size and power of the installation, there may also be technical requirements that need to be met.

Can you get subsidies for installing solar panels?

Yes, it is possible to obtain subsidies in Spain for the installation of solar panels in private homes. The Spanish government offers various subsidies and incentives to promote the production and use of renewable energy sources, including solar panels.

One of the most important grants is the "Program for the Promotion of Renewable Energy" (PROSOL) managed by the Spanish Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving (IDAE). This program provides financial support for the purchase and installation of solar panels and other forms of renewable energy sources for individuals and businesses.

In addition, some regions and municipalities in Spain also offer their own subsidy schemes for the installation of solar panels and other forms of renewable energy. However, the conditions and amounts of these subsidies may vary from region to region.

It is therefore advisable to contact the local authorities and energy companies to get more information about the available subsidies and the conditions for the installation of solar panels at private homes in Spain.

Does Eco Solar Technics apply for the subsidies for me?

Yes, Eco Solar Technics applies for the subsidies for a new installation, with all the mandatory formalities.

What part of the administration does Eco Solar Technics take care of?

An overview of the data Eco Solar Technics processes for you during the installation process:

Before the start of the installation:

  1. Notification of the works to the municipality
  2. Application for any licenses

After installation:

  1. We inspect your installation
  2. We register your installation with the grid operator. Your energy supplier is informed about your installation within a period of approximately 8 weeks after the inspection. Based on this notification, they will invite you personally to discuss your feed-in tariff.
  3. We apply for subsidies:
    1. Europe
    2. Spain
    3. Communidad
    4. Township

To be able to take control of this process, we require a power of attorney to be signed at the start of your file.

What is a Virtual Battery? Does Eco Solar Technics offer them?

A virtual battery in solar panels is a system used to store excess energy generated by solar panels for later use, without actually using physical batteries.

In this system, the excess energy produced by the solar panels is converted into electricity and delivered back to the grid. The electricity delivered back in this way is registered and credited to the owner of the solar panels. When there is a need for electricity, the owner can use this electricity from the grid, with the previously returned energy being settled as a credit.

In this way, the virtual battery functions as a kind of storage system, where excess energy is stored and can be used later. This system is particulary useful for households that have solar panels but don't want to purchase or install physical batteries.

All Eco Solar Technics on-grid installations are compatible with the virtual battery.

Ask our consultants for more information on the virtual battery.

When can I switch to a virtual battery?

To create clarity, we first make a distinction between the grid operator and the energy supplier.

Grid operator: Provides the infrastructure (cabling, meter)

Energy supplier: Supplies and charges you for your electricity consumption

Procedure:

  1. As soon as your solar installation is installed and inspected, the grid operator (usually Iberdrola or Endesa) is notified.
  2. They need about 8 weeks to process your file.
  3. Your grid operator will inform your energy supplier.
  4. Your energy supplier will invite you to discuss your 'new tariff' with energy injection into the grid.

In addition to the traditional injection of energy (with refund) into the grid, you can consider getting started with a virtual battery. This is a service offered by energy suppliers in the Spanish market.

Please note. The entire procedure above must be completed before you can switch to another energy supplier.

There are several parties offering such a service. Ask our consultants for more information.
